Hello, and welcome to Ko En Kendo Kai!
Who Are We?
“Ko En Kendo Kai” means a kendo community connected by the lakes. We are a friendly and welcoming club, based in the South Lakes and open to people of all ages and abilities.
Ko En Kai was founded in April 2019 by Dave Yates (Kendo 3rd Dan, DBS certified, qualified first aider). We are run completely not-for-profit, and no-one within the club is paid for their services. We accept beginners several times per year, and visiting kendoka are always welcome to come along for a bash!
Fill in our booking form to sign up for a free taster session.
What do we do?
We practise kendo, a martial art based around sword-fighting that originated in Japan. We use training swords (shinai) and protective armour (bogu) so we can train together safely and responsibly.
Our training times are:
Thursday 19:00-21:00 in Askam Band Hall
Sunday 14:00-16:00 in Dalton Leisure Centre
We also have a children’s class Sunday 13:00-14:00 in Dalton Leisure Centre
If you’re interested in trying out kendo, please visit our members page for details on our beginners’ courses, or click here to sign up. If you’re curious about what kendo actually is, please see our about kendo section or our FAQ page.
Please feel free to have a look around the site, and if you have any questions then just contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or on Facebook.
